Rule (Nas song)
2001 single by Nas featuring Amerie
"Rule" is the first single from American rapperNas' 2001 album Stillmatic. It features a chorus sung by Amerie and production provided by Poke and Tone of Trackmasters Entertainment. The song is known for both sampling and interpolating "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fears.
Overview
[edit]The song's lyrics are political, inspiration and reminiscent of those on Nas' 1996 single "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)." It references this song in the beginning when Nas says:

This references the intro to "If I ruled the World (Imagine That)" which is:
"Life, I wonder, will it take me under? I don't know."
As a single, "Rule" was not heavily promoted, but still reached #67 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart. It was released as a vinyl12-inch single with "No Idea's Original" as its b-side.[citation needed]
It was featured in the 2003 film, Honey, it is also featured on the Like Mike soundtrack, bu

Singles
[edit]The album had one single, "Quick to Back Down". The track was produced by Lil Jon and featured Nas and Lil Jon on the track. The chorus had Nas saying quick phrases in distaste for animosity towards anonymous rappers, followed by Lil Jon yelling "quick to back down!" The song was released in 2003, when the beef with Nas and Jay-Z was still brewing. Nas sent out a subliminal line to Jay-Z with the line "First of all this is Nas I'ma Braveheart veteran/and y'all already know who I'm better than." He also said "Who's the next label I'ma bury?/CEO's, rappers and A&R's go to the rap cemetery," which indirectly implies that of Roc-A-Fella.
